What's with the name "Vanilla Bean & Bella?" TOP

Many of you will know the business was renamed when I (Lindsey) took over operation in 2009. I wanted to use a name that reflected the simplicity of natural, no-fuss products, as well as alluded to the mother-and-child connection that they have. I guess you could translate the name to mean "simple baby and mama." Of course, the skincare line can be used on almost anyone.

Does Vanilla Bean & Bella have a storefront? Can I see your products in person? TOP

Vanilla Bean & Bella is a home-based business that sells mainly online, through this website and the Ottawa Valley Food Co-op. You can see us at many events each year from Deep River to Ottawa. We sell at the Pembroke Farmers' Market during the months of May-October. If you wish to see or sample our products in person please drop us an email to set up an appointment.

I have an allergy. Are your products gluten- or nut-free? TOP

I do not use ingredients that contain gluten (i.e. wheatgerm oil); however, I cannot guarantee that your product will be 100% gluten-free. Some of the skincare products do contain nut oils.

If allergies are at all a concern to you please request an ingredient list prior to purchasing an item. Many of the oils can be substituted without extra charge.

Usage Tips

The Bling Bling Sling is the easiest piece of babywearing equipment you'll master, but it may take a little bit of practice.

If you are unable to get the hang of your Bling Bling Sling or you feel you need it adjusted, please contact us - we're happy to help.

Washing

Washing instructions will vary depending on the material you choose for your sling. The vast majority of slings are machine wash / line dry, but specific instructions will be provided to you when you receive your sling.

Please note that your child's safety is YOUR responsibility at all times. We will only make you a sling with high-quality fabric and durable seams. Check your sling regularly for signs of wear, especially at the seams. Vanilla Bean & Bella is not liable for mishaps occuring while you are using a Bling Bling Sling.

Are your products vegan / vegetarian / tested on animals? TOP

Before answering this question let's get our definitions straight. "Vegetarian" and "vegan" are loosely-defined terms that happen to have enormous appeal in the cosmetics industry.

We believe that vegans do not eat, wear or otherwise use anything that is animal-derived, including anything that animals produce.

We believe that vegetarians do not eat animal ingredients or slaughter by-products, but will use animal produce such as milk, eggs or beeswax.

Vanilla Bean & Bella's skincare products are 100% vegetarian, and about 50% of those are vegan as well. Vegan products are identified throughout the website.

And no, we do not test our products on animals. However, several of our customers purchase our products for use on their pets, as they work on dogs and cats too :)

What are some benefits to using beeswax as opposed to a vegetable-derived wax? TOP

There are so many different waxes available for use in skincare products, and we settled on beeswax for a host of reasons. We wanted something that's not derived and manufactured, as are vegetable waxes like candelilla, carnauba and soy. Beeswax comes ready-made from the hive - it doesn't get much more natural than that.

Here are a few other reasons we chose beeswax:

• It's an effective moisture barrier on the skin
• It is readily available in our area, and does not undergo processing in a plant somewhere (think, carbon footprint!)
  
• It's vegetarian
  
• It is rich in Vitamin A, is antibacterial and has been lauded for millenia for its healing properties
• It contains local pollen, which can help with seasonal allergies
• It will not clog pores or irritate even sensitive skin
